- Life in a Metro (2007), Director: Anurag Basu
Ranjit (KK Menon) and Shikha (Shilpa Setti) are a couple, but not happy with each other. Ranjit is physically close to his office girl Neha (Kangana Ranawat). Neha also has her own interest in having a relationship with Ranjit. Another employee of the same office Rahul (Sharman Joshi) is attracted to Neha. Akash (Shiny Ahuja) who stumbles upon Shikha's life is also a character who has a holiday with his wife.
Shruti (Konkona Sen Sharma) is looking for someone to love her in this city, who has not found anyone to like her. He doesn't like to find Monty on the internet in his life. Irrfan Khan is playing the role of Monty in the film.
In the film, even after forty years, one cannot forget his first girlfriend. In the first scene of the film, the director gives the audience hints about his characters.
Director Anurag Basu has skillfully woven the half-finished relationships of the characters. 'Life in a Metro', which tells the story of the jailed relationship of the characters wandering in the crowds of the metropolis in search of physical and mental happiness, was recorded in the best film of the year due to its music, screenplay, and acting.
For the roles of Monty and Shruti, Irrfan and Konkona both won other awards, including the Filmfare Award for Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress. Earlier, Irrfan had won an award for a negative role in the film 'Hasil'. Winning the award as a supporting actor from 'Life in a Metro' was proof that he could be frozen in a different kind of character.
- Paansingh Tomar (2012), Director: Himanshu Dhulia
Paan Singh Tomar was born in 1932 in the village of Videos in Madhya Pradesh. He entered the Indian military service as a subedar. Paan Singh had an extraordinary ability to run. That's why he became a long-distance runner, not a gunman.

The same Pansingh retired in 1972 and returned to the village. Babu Singh, who is arrogant towards others in the village, has a dispute over his land. The dispute reaches the Panchayat. But Pan Singh should be humiliated instead of getting justice. One incident after another is breaking the illusion of Pan Singh thinking that he is a respected player.
After Babusingh attacks his elderly mother, he decides to take revenge with a gun. This step of his turns him into a dreadful bandit of Chambal.
In this biopic based on the story of a real character, Irfan has become an example of how much an artist can immerse himself in his character. He was highly praised for bringing Pansingh Tomar to life on screen. From Filmfare to National Awards, this is the most important film of Irrfan's life.
- Maqbool (2003), Director: Vishal Bhardwaj
Irrfan is in the lead role in this film which has a veteran actor. It was a significant achievement for her career to have such a long and strong role when the film was released.
'Maqbool' takes the viewer to the world of Mumbai underworld. Abbaji (Pankaj Kapoor) is the king of this world while Maqbool (Irrfan Khan) is his main man.
Despite being honest with Abbaji, Maqbool and Abbaji's wife Nimmi (Tabu) are in love. From the nature of Maqbool, those around him doubt whether he will become a don by killing Abbaji. This is what Nimmi also wants - Maqbool to kill Abbaji and let their love not be hindered.
You have to watch the movie to know what decision Maqbool will make after being provoked by his girlfriend.
The character of 'Maqbool' is full of artists like Nasiruddin Shah, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapoor and Piyush Mishra. Vishal Bhardwaj had made a series of three films inspired by Shakespeare's plays - 'Maqbool', 'Omkara' and 'Haider'.
Of these, Maqbool was based on 'Macbeth', Omkara on 'Othello' and Haider on 'Hamlet'. Vishal Bhardwaj's presentation and the brilliant acting of the actor made 'Maqbool' a special film. Irfan's acting is also special in this.
- Madari (2016), Director: Nishikant Kamat
The story of the film begins with the abduction of Rohan Goswami, the only son of the Home Minister, who is eight years old. In the film, Nirmal Kumar plays the role of kidnapping the same son of Irfan Home Minister. CBI officer Nishiket Verma (Jimmy Shergill) has been searching for the child. Meanwhile, Nirmal travels from one city to another with Rohan.
The real reason for Nirmal's abduction is known during this trip. The present and the past are intertwined in the film. New characters and letters are opening up. Watch the movie to know the reason behind the abduction of the Home Minister's son.
Although 'Madari' has a social theme, it is not a great film. But for those who want to see Irrfan on screen, this film is a joy.
Whether it's a character with long hair and a thick beard that looks like a kidnapper, or a scene of him crying in a hospital, he is all over the film. He has left no stone unturned in acting.
- Lunch Box (2013), Director: Ritesh Batra
There is a Hindi saying in the Lunch Box movie - sometimes the wrong train takes you to the right place. Saajan (Irrfan Khan) and Ila (Nimrat Kaur) are similar characters in this film.
The lunch box that Ila had sent for her husband accidentally arrives at Sajan's table. At the suggestion of the neighbor's aunt to attract her husband's attention, the taste of the lunch cooked by Ila, who cooks sweet dishes, makes Sajan stick. One day, two days later, these two characters start exchanging feelings by putting a letter inside the lunch box. These letters are the means to bring the audience closer to the lives of these two characters. The boy's letter is in English and the girl's letter is in Hindi.
Ila, who is devastated by the loss of his wife and husband, is in a dilemma. Every day when Sajan visits the office, he is carried away by the crowds of Mumbai city and his loneliness.
The film tells the story before this. So to speak, the style of weaving the story is more admirable than the story of the film. The group of coaches seen on Mumbai's bicycles and trains is beautifully captured in the film. The Lunch Box has made a significant contribution to the Mumbai City Daily without telling the story of the boxers.
Screenwriting, editing, acting and directing are all delicious movies that are full of agile lunch box. It is a successful film that won the Critics Week Viewers' Choice Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
